Green WRAP

Green WRAP was a nature‑based mental health and wellbeing programme delivered by Green Synergy over three years, supporting adults in Lincolnshire who were experiencing poor mental wellbeing, low confidence, isolation and difficulty managing everyday challenges.

Funded through the Mental Health and Wellbeing Community Investment Fund, Green WRAP combined the principles of Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) with green and creative activities, offering a non‑clinical, supportive space where people could reflect, connect and rebuild confidence at their own pace.

Sessions were delivered in small, consistent groups, using Green Synergy’s garden spaces and community settings. Participants took part in a structured programme that blended discussion, guided mindfulness, gentle creative activity and time in nature. Each session followed a familiar format, helping people feel safe, grounded and able to engage, while still allowing flexibility to respond to individual needs.

What the project involved

Green WRAP sessions typically included:

  • Gentle check‑ins and group discussion
  • Practical tools for managing mental health and wellbeing
  • Mindfulness and grounding exercises
  • Creative activities and time in the garden
  • Space for reflection, peer support and shared learning

Participants were encouraged to explore self‑care, resilience, boundaries and coping strategies in ways that felt accessible and relevant to everyday life. Grounding tools such as colouring materials and fidgets were always available, and people were supported to engage in different ways depending on their energy levels and confidence.

Alongside group sessions, one‑to‑one support was offered where appropriate, and peer support opportunities were built in to help people stay connected beyond the main programme.

Impact and experience

Over its three‑year delivery, Green WRAP supported more than 120 participants, with strong outcomes reported across mental health, confidence, resilience and social connection. Many people described feeling more listened to, less isolated and better able to understand and manage their wellbeing.

Participants often highlighted the value of:

  • Being outdoors and connected to nature
  • Having time and space to explore wellbeing without pressure
  • Sharing experiences with others in similar situations
  • Feeling accepted in a non‑judgemental environment

Small but meaningful changes were a key part of Green WRAP’s impact — from people feeling able to leave the house more often, to taking steps towards new activities, volunteering, education or simply feeling more balanced day to day.

Legacy

Green WRAP successfully challenged perceptions of mindfulness and self‑care, supporting participants to recognise that looking after their wellbeing is both valid and important. The project built strong relationships and trust, many of which continued beyond the sessions themselves.

Although Green WRAP has now ended, its learning and values live on. The principles of WRAP, nature‑connection and flexible, person‑centred delivery continue to shape Green Synergy’s approach, informing the development of future wellbeing programmes and services.
